HAPPY HALLOWEEN
From our senior editor Linda Whittaker

'Tis the time for decorating for my favorite holiday of the year - HALLOWEEN!!

After a quick dusting down of the house, unpack
your Halloween Box of decoration and goodies, which is a fun experience in itself! Last year, we had just moved into our house, so we weren't prepared for the full on festive decoration session! But, this year.... LOOK OUT! As a newcomer to America, I was very excited to decorate my front porch with cobwebs, spiders and the biggest pumpkins I could find. My next visitors will have their reflexes tested... they will be most surprised when they ring the doorbell, to be greeted by the largest and hairiest spider you have ever seen! From spiders dangling from our stairwell, to decorating the house in orange and black, we even have a remote control to use for our resident rat with glowing red eyes, to greet our visitors as they come through our front door.

October is the month to have fun and laughs, spending time with family, friends and loved ones. Invite your friends and their kids over for a Costume Parade and some delicious Halloween snacks.
My tip: Keep it casual, relaxing and fun.

Don't forget to have a few pumpkins on hand, together with a set of Pumpkin Carving tools, stickers and accessories for the younger ones, to participate in a pumpkin carving session - We get together with all the neighbors of all ages, to have a great time. It is a yearly tradition to then roast the pumpkin seeds for a delicious and healthy snack later.

Start the preparations for "Trick or Treat" and parade the streets in your favorite costume. With pail in hand, this is a fabulous and fun way to meet your neighbors. If you will be out, remember to leave a basket of goodies, pencils, stickers or erasers on your front veranda for the fellow trick or treaters. Don't forget to leave your front light on before you go out! This is such a wonderful community event.
Wishing you a very wonderful Halloween!
Linda Whittaker
