Successful Goals in May

May is the time to set goals and achieve. Are there dreams in your life that you aspire to achieve? Now is the time to make it happen. Make a cuppa, grab a pen and paper and get ready for a session of planning! I would like you to write down what you would like to achieve, in the short, medium and long term. Next to each I would like you to have a deadline to have achieved this goal.

Make sure you write your goal in a positive manner, be specific and stick it to your fridge or bathroom mirror, so that every day, your positive goal is re-enforced in your mind. Most importantly, make sure your goal is realistic and achievable.

Examples of Goals to Achieve:-

Short Term:

I will make time to practice drawing with my daughter, every Friday when she gets home from school or after work!

Medium term:

I will save $100 before the end of July, to save towards my next holiday with in the Azores swimming with dolphins and whales the kid's will just love it. All guided by Amy Leigh! A truely spiritual journey for the entire family!

Long Term:

I will plan my itinerary to travel to Australia with Dr. Tranquility and and Linda herself next winter, by the end of November.

The most important thing is to reward yourself when you complete your goal. Be excited about your achievements, tell your friends & family and reward yourself with a Teuscher's Champagne truffle or a leisurely moment in the bath even if it is 11 pm it is still yourmoment.

Have a fun and successful time with your family,

Linda Whittaker

What All Parents Should Know About Swine Flu

As the concern over swine flu (H1N1) grows in school districts and communities across the country and around the world, children and families can become anxious. Parents may be looking for help on how to talk to their children and may not know how or when to communicate with the school.

That's why the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA), National Association of School Nurses, and the National Association of School Psychologists joined together to provide parents with information they may need about swine flu and tips for talking to their children about the situation.

Although it's important to be cautious and vigilant, it's equally important not to panic. When talking to children, the key is to provide prevention information without causing alarm. Teaching children positive preventive measures, talking with them about their fears, and giving them a sense of some control over their risk of infection can help prevent and reduce any anxiety.

Below are 10 tips on talking to children about swine flu:

-- Remain calm and reassuring. Your children will react to and follow your verbal and nonverbal reactions.

-- Make yourself available. Your children may need extra attention from you and may want to talk about their concerns and questions. Make time for them.

-- Know the symptoms of swine flu and how it spreads. Symptoms of swine flu include fever, sore throat, and cough, among others.

☺ Proper nutrition – having well balanced meals will help the brain work at its best. A good dinner the night before as well as a protein breakfast will boost your child’s brain power to perform better in school. Complex carbohydrates give their body’s supply of calming chemicals, making mental tasks like problem-solving easier to do.

☺ Visualization – when you are stressed, take a few moments and imagine your favorite place to be. Visualization can help calm the nerves. This can put you in a better place of mind before taking the tests. Brain scans show simply visualizing something calm and happy triggers the brain to produce relaxing alpha waves in less than 30 seconds, which slows the heart rate and breathing down.

Give The Gift Of Solitude
Taken from Supporting Your Child as a Spiritual Being By Amy Leigh
"The child is the center of his or her own world and that is as it should
be. As we seek to illuminate the world around him or her we also must
honor the gift of the child’s self. Allowing your child to experience the joy
and pleasure of solitude early in life can make a positive difference in his or
her entire existence. It can allow the child to relax and unfocus the mind. It
can allow daydreaming and imagining – the impetus for creativity. Time
spent in solitude teaches the child to rely more on internal cues to inform
their sense of self and less on external validation in our fast paced society."
